FM Series: Fimone

Join us for our new FM Series, a free music series featuring talented artists from Connecticut and beyond! This evening’s artist is Nashville’s Fimone!

Born inside a lightning bolt, Fimone traveled to earth through an electric charge, striking the black soil of rural Minnesota. Born with a natural gift for writing songs, she began crafting her own original music at just 16-years-old. Fimone’s first Fender helped her weather the storm of emotions that came from growing up different in a small rural town. Emerging from her family double-wide like a hatchling pecking toward light, Fimone followed her dreams. In Nashville, TN, she developed a unique sound that blends elements of country, blues and rock in a fresh and unexpected manner.

She quickly found herself in a battle for her future with demons both in bourbon and human form; the three unable to be disentangled. Fimone manifested an intangible steel resilience and freed herself from her foes’ clutches. From there, her music has taken her across the United States and Europe, where she has toured and shared stages with some of the most respected names in the industry. Her live performances are powerful and emotive, showcasing her dynamic voice and thoughtful songwriting.

In addition to her work as a musician, Fimone is also a passionate advocate for social justice and equality. Her songs speak to the heart and soul of listeners, offering a unique perspective on the world around us. Fimone’s music often touches on important issues for underrepresented communities, and her passions for music and humanity are divinely inspired.

Rob Flax's Boom Chick Trio

Rob Flax's Boom Chick Trio

Introducing Rob Flax’s Boom Chick Trio! Equal parts hot swing, snarky songwriting, and lyrical storytelling, this energetic trio of virtuoso violin, guitar, and bass plus three part harmony vocals will transport you to a speakeasy somewhere in the back of a bar. You might not be able to sit still in your seat, and you’ll have a smile on your face most of the show!

Free show! Grab some dinner and drinks and enjoy some wonderful live music!

Rob Flax possesses a rare combination of skills: he is an award-winning virtuoso violinist, classically trained but known for his jazz and improvisational pyrotechnics and irresistible grooves; he is also a powerhouse vocalist, capable of silky crooning a la Nat King Cole or visceral Chicago blues shouts.

For many years Rob performed mostly solo—it takes a special kind of musician to keep pace with Rob’s stylistic breadth and depth!—but after much searching he’s finally found a band that can keep up: Rob Flax’s Boom Chick Trio is a new “supergroup” that features Slava Tolstoy on guitar and Max Ridley on bass. Max and Slava both are incredible instrumentalists who have chops for days, but know how to balance their prowess in service of the song.

Together, the three string-wielding maestros have forged a powerful group dynamic, developed over years of gigging and concerts, and the result is an interplay that will bring a smile to your face!

Cassie Falvey Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser

Cassie Falvey Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser

A memorial fundraiser in honor of the late Cassie Falvey, an exceptional teacher who sadly passed in June 2021.

Music by The John Spignesi Band + Raffle with prizes from Mohegan Sun, the Hartford Yard Goats, Supercharged, and The Garde Arts Center!

As someone who worked in the New London Public School system for years, she believed in building community. More importantly, she believed in the potential of the youth of New London.

She spent her life giving to the youth of the city, and the Cassie Falvey Memorial Scholarship aims to continue extending the opportunity she wanted for all her students.

The scholarship is presented by family and friends of Cassie Falvey and awarded to an English Learner who is looking to continue their education at a college or university this fall.

In May, our third time awarding the Cassie Falvey Memorial Scholarship, we were able to award over $1,300 to a deserving student. This year we have the goal of growing the scholarship and making awards to multiple students.

The event will include live music by the John Spignesi Band as well as a raffle. The John Spignesi Band is familiar around New London, having played at the Social, and is fronted by former New London teacher John Spignesi. The band has a loyal flock of fans throughout New England and is known for the positive atmosphere at their shows.

Twisted Pine w/ The Carleans

Come join us for an electrifying evening at The Social Bar + Kitchen! Twisted Pine will blow your mind with their unique fusion of bluegrass, funk and pop. Local favorites The Carleans will open the show!

Praised by NPR for their "upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms; and virtuosic solos,” Twisted Pine released their sophomore full-length Right Now in 2020 (Signature Sounds Recordings). Exploring a sound they call Americana funk, Twisted Pine takes traditional music in exhilarating directions. Bassist Chris Sartori writes, "This album is easier to feel than describe. We’re rooted in bluegrass, continually inspired by explorers like Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, and Sierra Hull. Right Now takes this heritage into a new dimension. Our bluegrass is jazzy, our indie folk is poppy, our grooves are funky."Twisted Pine [Kathleen Parks, fiddle; Dan Bui, mandolin; Chris Sartori, bass; Anh Phung, flute] grooves with fearless improvisation and intricate arrangements. "They were once bluegrass," wrote The Boston Globe, "but ... this Boston band has become something else, a wider version of string band, boundary jumpers akin to outfits like Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek, and Crooked Still.”

"An upbeat, poppy vibe; energetic, driving rhythms; virtuosic solos; tight harmonies. This is definitely a band to watch" — National Public Radio

“Instrumental virtuosity — the band’s calling card — abounds on their latest album, Right Now, but so too do moments of sheer pop glory, funky all-day grooves, and spacecraft sonics.” — No Depression

"So grooving, and low volume! " — Vulfpeck

Whether you're a fan of bluegrass or just looking for a fun night out, this is the event for you! So gather your friends and head over to The Social Bar + Kitchen for an unforgettable night of foot-stomping melodies and good vibes. Don't miss out on this one-of-a-kind experience!
